Here at Kent Detailing Studio we often see soft tops come to us in a very sorry state, often the customer is unsure how to properly maintain this part of the vehicle which results in a build-up off moss and dirt. Sadly, over time this can cause permanent damage to the fabric causing costly repairs in the future. Not only does the build-up of dirt cause issues but sun light will slowly degrade the roof more so the colour.
we recommend to our customers they should book in with us once a year, not only does this stop the growth of moss and the build-up of dirt but with the help of our sealants it also stops harm fall UV rays from dying the soft top.
We firstly start off by deep cleaning your roof, this is done by using a mixture of brushes and cleaners to remove the bulk of the grime build up and any residue coatings that are left followed by a thorough rinse using low pressure water. The vehicle then enters our workshop where we carry out a steam and wet vacuum to draw out any lasting dirt and grime. Once fully dry we hoover and lint roller the soft top, apply dust sheeting to the exterior paint work of the vehicle and begin the dying process. Dependant on how faded the soft top is will depend on the number of coats we apply, well keep roofs require far less then poorly maintained ones. The roof has now been left to dry out and gas the solvents in the dye, we begin treating to roof with protectants, multiple layers are applied to give the roof its best chance of staying fresh all year.
Although mobile detailers are often more convenient than studio based detailers without proper cover the process is often poorly done. The trick to a good soft top clean is time, the layers need plenty of drying time, we have a fully heated unit where this is readily available to us.
